Indian Barbies, Indian Dolls

Recently The Hubby and I attended a party at the home of some writer friends of ours. The wife has a wonderful, detached office behind the main house. Her bookshelves are crammed with books, memorabilia, eye-catching doodads, and an impressive collection of Barbie (and a few Ken) dolls.

All the dolls are all dressed in native (East) Indian attire, in honor of the couple's beautiful, college-bound daughter, whom they adopted from India when she was a very tiny girl.

I never knew there were so many Indian Barbies!:

As intriguing as the Mattel creations were, they couldn't hold a candle to the wife's collection of Indian-made dolls. She said she bought them years ago, and that they only cost a couple of dollars each, back then.

They have such personality!:

These two gals seem to be avoiding each other's gaze on purpose:

This looks like a groom on the left, and his bride in pink. The character in the back--is that the father? the marriage broker?

Such fun to see the treasured dolls from another part of the world.
